Following a brief to create a piece of site specific sculpture on the site of the old market place in Thornbury, Gloucestershire,
which Turnberries community centre is now sited, Karen was asked to work with eleven year sevens from The Castle School in Thornbury.
There is such strong historical significance to the wool trade and sheep farming in the area with the market place playing such a vital roll.
Following a drawing day on a local farm looking specifically at sheep, collectively we explored our individual ideas for the sculpture and this piece was created in the school's much acclaimed Octagon Gallery.
The group worked from research and images from Thornbury Museum, drawing directly from life and exploring form and textures.
They started with bricks sponsored by Ibstock Brick and with many eager and talented little hands the forms emerged .
This piece 'To Market, To Market' is permanently installed at the entrance to Turnberries Community Centre, Bath Road, Thornbury, BS35 2BB
